Lottery records, 1749-1954.

Contains records which document the Philadelphia Lottery (1749-1750), the Connecticut Lottery (1753-1754), the New Jersey College Lottery (1761), the New Jersey College Lottery (1763-1764), and the Delaware Lottery (1772-1774). The materials include account information, broadside lottery announcements, lists of winning tickets and prizes, and actual lottery tickets. Also in the collection are materials from a Princeton University Library exhibit about the lotteries.

William Shippen Sr. (October 1, 1712 – November 4, 1801) was an American physician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was also a civic and educational leader who represented Pennsylvania in the Continental Congress. Born in Philadelphia, Shippen pursued preparatory studies and studied medicine before undertaking his profession in Philadelphia.
